There it is not yet listed that simulation is currently broken with the Conda builds because of issues with GMSH 4.x. I don't know the status right now but Maybe 0.18 should use GMSH 3.x for now.
Here is the forum thread: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 6&start=10
Most of the open issues in the roadmap are either packaging issues or the Wiki but only 2 or 3 are about the software itself.
This one is a packaging issue.

I fully agree, however from a new user's perspective these packaging issues appear as bugs or missing features in FC. So they should be fixed before a release to avoid countless bug reports.

Meanwhile there are still things that could be improved directly in FC. For example I miss tooltips in many places and have to google around to find out what they mean. Therefore I have created this tracker issue as collection of what I think would be nice to have a tooltip for:
issue #3866
There are still here an there issues that are not yet set to the 0.18 target but that could be fixed for 0.18 nevertheless.

I disagree. These are missing things which have been around long time and are no showstoppers. If we again start to look for this and that and the other little thing which would be a nice to have... it will never end. I agree with the developers who say we should release and then 0.19 has it ´s own roadmap and wishlist .
Probably each software project has a list of not done features or issues that are postponed from release to release.

+1

And all of a sudden there are unexpected sideeffects, although it should have been only a small fix ...

Of course these things should be fixed before the release. But this affects only the package builders (mainly sgrogan) but not the developers directly. And I think that most of the packaging issues are easy to fix.

What do you think about this : https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=34434 ?
Well, similar.. It does not harm and as it was not put on the 0.18 roadmap , seems a very minor issue. I already read a 3 weeks discussion in my future seeing eyes...what samples to put on it..

Let this be a task in 0.19 and a bunch of users can work this out..no need for programmers there.

I disagree.
You misunderstood me. Obviously some time is needed to fix the packaging issues and in the meantime the developers could for example polish a bit the UI. It was just a proposal what could be done.

Uwe,

i did not missundertand you, and i agree that the proposed changes are not a big impact.
But if they start this one, the next day another idea comes up what we could be fixed before ...and then another... etc.

If a developer has no more 0.18 tasks, he can already prepare for 0.19 development anyway.
