Would be neat to be able to set the transparency level of selection and preselection highlighting color (Preferences > Display > Colors tab).
Then it would be possible to, for example, set the selection color to bright red and the transparency of this bright red to 30%.
This would look better and be easier to to eyes.
Another idea would be to make the selection and preselection add the (semitransparent) inverted the color of each object. Then there is no risk of the selection color and the object color to be the same.

Re: Transparency of selection/preselection highlight color
I expected it to work this way. Also I expected a partially transparent view mode.

https://youtu.be/-K1EVcYAmRM?t=868 I haven't been able to find that setting so I'll assume it is only implemented in his branch.

Re: Transparency of selection/preselection highlight color
Could this, by any chance, have anything in common with Children and/or parent to be highlighted when hoovering over something in the tree/3D viewport ?
