profile and face operation issues

Post by blazini36 »

I'm currently having 2 issues in path trying to generate the correct tool paths. The first one I mentioned in a post I previously made about another issue I was having. I can't figure out how to profile just 1 side of the part. The contour path will run completely around the perimeter of the model, as will the "profile faces" operation. This is a problem because I will be clamping this part to the table on the 2 short ends. I just want to profile the 2 long ends (highlighted).

Another issue is that I can't get the facing operation to extend past the model into the stock or beyond. This part is using 6" wide stock that milled down to 5.9". I've tried the profile operations as well with the same result. I'm not sure what I need to do to get the path to extend in only 1 direction, or respect the stock length rather than just the model. I wind up with little facets that are short of the edge of the model.

That's is a known flaw of the current Path workbench. Sliptonic has shown a prototype improving the situation, but I think it is not available in master yet.

Not really a flaw; just a "CURRENT" limitation.

Is this going to be side-milled; what material is being milled?

Use a "HELPER OBJECT" situated in WCS (world coordinate system) just along that edge, and pocket or profile as necessary!

Yes it's going to be side milled, it's aluminum. I've never used a "helper object", I'll have to see if I can figure that out when I get in front of the computer.
