Freecad path strategy
Hello,
I am creating a door 20 x 15 cm 1cm in depth. There is a large pocket of 3 mm depth I want to cut off. I think of a 6mm endmill or bigger
to remove the pocket, but there are fine structures in the pocket where a 1 or 2 mm endmill would be suitable. What would be a good path strategy to cut the pocket?
The outer part of the door should have the struture of stones, so I would like to cut some seams.
So just follow a simple path. How would I do that best?
Advice would be appreciated.

Re: Freecad path strategy
I would go for a first pocket with a fairly big endmill and add one or even two profiles with decreasing smaller tools. Similar with profiles on the outside.

Re: Freecad path strategy
Thanks for your reply,
so i would add a big pocket e.g. rectangle, that is more or less virtual in the middle? (Can only be seen in the construction sketch) and the fine structure I do with a profile? But then I will have non removed wood on the ground inbetween the profile and the pocket.
Maybe I just think too complicated...

Re: Freecad path strategy
You don't add anything to the model. The pocket compensates the tool diameter, and will loose the fine details, so with the bigger tool will almost everything be removed except the fine details.strahlensauger wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 11:58 am Thanks for your reply,

Can you upload the model?

On more topic is the door handle,
in order not to remove it while clearing the pocket, I connected it to the outer plane, having in mind to
cut it off with a cutter knife afterwards. Is there a possibility to have an "island" in the middle of the pocket?

Looks like something for the kids, and we are always eager to help at that end.
The pocket is done here with an 8mm endmill. The "rats nest" at the bigger area is a known issue, I don't know how to work around. The profile follows with a 2mm endmill very close to the edge:

I'm afraid not directly, perhaps Gene or Herbert know of a possibility in Path. I would add something faky to the model to get an additional seam.strahlensauger wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 12:25 pm Is there a possibility to have an "island" in the middle of the pocket?
