Beginner help please

Post by tonyaimer »

I am VERY new to CNC in general and path in particular.

I have created a simple block and am trying to do the code for a simple slot using
the pocket shape tool and a 10mm end mill

I cant make it work although I did get the "path walkthrough for the impatient" by chrisb
to work although we all know you can't cut the internal square corners with a round endmill.

I have enclosed my effort so far and would appreciate knowing what I have done wrong.

I admit that the walkthrough is a bit outdated, nevertheless you are on the right track and only one step is missing.

- Select the bottom of the pocket you want to create:

- Click the Pocket icon
- For now leave everything as is and confirm with Ok.

I tried to do the pocket operation using three faces and I had a bit of a problem selecting the three faces because
my ability to rotate the module during the selection of the three faces. I will now try again using just the bottom
face of the pocket as you suggest.

Glad I am not a million miles off base with this workbench.

I also want to give a shout out to Sliptonic whose book I was reading again earlier on my kindle.

I really want to hang in with FreeCAD as it is certainly going to go places in the future.

Hope to cut some chips on my PCNC1100 from Tormach soon
