Chamfer - path miss faces

Post by überfuzz »

Hi

I'm trying to setup a chamfer operation on faces of a shape I've designed. The drawing is based on a svg file I've imported into and extruded in freecad. The svg is a bunch of splines that outline a sort of elliptic shape. When I setup operations in path to try and mill faces on my piece it doesn't work. It seems freecad/path don't recognize the faces choose for the operations. I attach a file with the issue I'm having.

Neither the 3D Pocket nor the Mill Face are appropriate for these small 3D curved faces. Both operations cut in a horizontal plane. The 3D pocket will step down layer by layer if the step size is made small enough, but there will still be stair steps in the final product.

I had no trouble making either of these operations select the faces, but the results are probably not what you want.

Here is a cross-section showing the result of the 3D Pocket with a small stepdown.

Ah so it can't be done in freecad, bummer.

I did not say that.

There are other operations in the Path WB. Try 3D Surface to see if it might work for you.

The wiki is an (almost) endless source of wisdom: Path_Surface.

This may not be set?
