No results show up

Postby FemUser » Thu Aug 24, 2017 5:09 pm

I am using FreeCAD 0.17 11904 Git

I am trying to troubleshoot an issue I am getting with certain geometries. I get the following (see below) and on the generated folder only the .inp file has data. How can I debug this? Any idea? When I use a cube as a test solid everything works great.

first off all I would download the latest FreeCAD, which has a newer version off CalculiX too. Another option would be to post the file. bernd

If you check your working dir, is there no frd result file, or do you have an empty frd result file?

Wow you answered very quick. Thanks Bernd. I will be bugging you a lot in the future. I really want to use FreeCAD... Files are generated but actually only the .inp has something inside it. All other are empty.

FEMMeshGMSH.frd 0 bytes
FEMMeshGMSH.dat 0 bytes
FEMMeshGMSH.cvg 0 bytes
FEMMeshGMSH.inp 21.2 Mb
FEMMeshGMSH.sta 0 bytes
spooles.out 0 bytes

My current FreeCAD setup is as follows I use a daily version from here:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/freecad-mainta ... ily/ubuntu

Problem is that it doesn't have NetGen support... Is there any other better way of having a more complete and updated version that I don't need to compile every time?

The file is too large to attach even if I zip it. 8.7 MB.

try right click on the mesh --> clear, clears the mesh but keeps the object and thus the mesh properties.

I am importing a STEP file instead of doing the complete geometry in FreeCAD then I try to create a mesh. I noticed that mesh and imported body don't match in the same position. I made a mesh with Gmsh applied boundary condition and tried to solve. In the solve module (Calculix) after creating the .inp file Calculix said everything went well but no results files.

Thanks to Bernd I learned that it is good practice to clean it with Part Refine Shape and it improves compatibility of the imported geometry with the solver.

I tried to follow the same steps as Bernd did however in my system things didn't go as expected.

When try the solver it freezes in the .inp generation file step. I updated my FreeCAD to the latest version this morning.

Are you able to run an analysis and get results with the 3D FEM example from StartWB?

If yes than

- load the file I provided for you
- activate the analysis
- select the solver
- click on run button
- You should than get a new result object
- if not copy the output printed in the FreeCAD report window and post it here (put it in code tags)

The weird thing is that this advances a few times and I get to produce a .inp file (After a few restarts of FreeCAD).
I get this:

run CalculiX at: ccx with: /home/.../FEMMeshGMSH
calculixStarted()
PySide.QtCore.QProcess.ProcessState.Running
Error() PySide.QtCore.QProcess.ProcessError.Crashed
calculixFinished() 0
PySide.QtCore.QProcess.ProcessState.NotRunning
FemConstraintForce has Face reference shapes.
FEM preferences working dir is not set, the solver working directory is used.
FemTools.setup_working_dir() --> self.working_dir = /home/.../
Read results from: /home/.../FEMMeshGMSH.frd
FEM: No nodes found in Frd file.
Problem on frd file import. No nodes found in frd file.
FEM: No result object in active Analysis.

Why can I generateFEMMeshGMSH.inp (some times) but not FEMMeshGMSH.frd? Maybe installation issues?
