Not really. You "just" need to generate extra nodes for those edges that need to be disconnected. No change in geometry needed for that. In the end a freely rotating hinge will have been created once one straight line remains connected.

So you could think of of a dialog box where users can select points, edges or faces that need to be disconnected (nodes duplicated). That would give biggest flexibility to introduce extra degrees of freedom.

Block under uniform tension. Results in the 4 steel bars are automatically suppressed, as intended.

Two stacked 0.3x0.3x3.0m concrete columns with cantilever beam support, loaded by 0.5MN (50Te) beam reaction:

where exact did you load the column? The whole cantilever face?

I have uploaded the 4 files affected by this development to my public repository (HarryvL), which I rebaselined on the FC master . Not sure how to progress from here. Some user interface issues still to be resolved, e.g. for now 3 material parameters (rebar yield strength fy, concrete compressive strength fck, concrete friction angle Phi) are all hard coded.

2) We could try mixed meshes once it can handle embedding 1D or 2D elements in 3D. It would be ideal to model the cable as a string of 1D elements. Or even a 2 D strip would be a great simplification.
OK, when using a square section for the rebars (based on parabolic sketch/extrude)
instead of using a sweeped circle the mehing/refinement works. And I got more than 500000 cells.
Using 1D elements for the rebars is a good idea... :)

Thomas, how did you model the parabola in the sketch?

Open sketcher-wb, draw sketch with "arc of parabola by focus, vertex, endpoints" tool
(click on cone-symbol to open menue).
Extrude sketch with part-wb.
