I am new to Elmer and need to learn it especially for flow simulations. So I am very interested in your example. Where can I find the forum post with the "trick" and can you share your simulation file?

Hi uwestoerh

In that thread i have opened a few considerations on CFD with Elmer https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=56151

The trick i found on Elmer forums. My second post in the thread has a link.

It has to do with the NonLinearNewton parameters. Easentially preventing the Newton method from ever occuring. Not sure why yet. Raback knows probably.

Many thanks. I will try this out.

However, in my use cases I only have laminar flows since I make microfluidics.

Oh I'm very interested in what challenges you'll tackle. Elmer can do 2D/3D at will. One "weakness" is in FreeCAD it's not yet straightforward to mesh Hex elements, generally CFD likes Hexes.

I've done most of my work simulations using the CfdOF workbench, but I'm pushing through Elmer. Don't know why, i just like it.

This tutorial works for me on Catalina 10.15.7.
