[Solved]How to update Gmsh on Linux Mint

Hello,
My current version is GMSH 3.0.6. I downloaded the GMSH-4.8.4-Linux64.tgz archive from the GMSH.INFO site. I do not know how to update. Where to extract the archive ? I do not know compiled software.

i've downloaded the latest version of gmsh 4.8.4, then followed instructions from here

Edit → Preferences → FEM → Gmsh → Search in known binary directories

it worked

I have already read FC's FEM documentation. There is nothing accurate about the installation on Linux. For example, where to extract the archive to replace exactly the old version ?

why would there be instructions for installing gmsh on fc documentation?

if you are aiming for a system gmsh, I suppose the instruction are at gmsh docs.

how is fc/gmsh installed at your computer? (i tend to think that noone can help without having that info)

gmsh for fc is just an external program, so principally you can put it anywhere and choose in fc pref which gmsh is picked up...

I simply extracted the archive in the /home folder and indicated to FC to find it there.
