Netgen produce weird mesh

Post by k.s.v »

I try to use FEM for the first time and stuck right at the beginning.
What I did:
1. Start FreeCAD
2. Created new document
3. Activated Parts WB
4. Created Cube (with default parameters)
5. Activated FEM WB
6. Created Analysis
7. Selected the Cube
8. Applied "Mesh->FEM Mesh from shape by Netgen" (with default parameters)

And got the following result

The created mesh has only 1 element and does not fully fill original cube volume.
There were no error messages concerning this operation, but the result is wrong.
Will you please suggest what to check or where to look?

I am on Ubuntu 20.04

Try with newer version, FEM workbench is very actively developed and there are lots of changes and bug fixes in subsequent releases. In my FreeCAD 0.19 there’s no such issue - Netgen creates a mesh with 5 quadratic tetrahedrons.

to precise what newJoker suggested, jump to the ongoing 0.20 version.
