Assembly & sketch

Post by amka »

Hi,

Now we have FC 0.18 and 0.19, so I come again with my question. My purpose is to do a shape in a part which respect the shape of an other part (both are in an assembly), let's see my explication which follows, I hope it's clear.

I am trying to do this thing in an assembly :

- I have an assembly with part_1 and part_2.
- I create a sketch (sketch_1) in part_1 (to do by example an extrusion with this sketch).
- During I work in sketch_1, I need to see the other part (part_2), in the same screen were I do my lines, circles,... (which are sketch_1).

(- I need this typically to copy a geometry form part_2 which has an effect on part_1 shape.)

It seems that it is simply impossible. Can I have please a confirmation if it's true ?

thanks

@amka: search for Carbon Copy - maybe that's what you need.

OK, I explain better with some images of an other CAD

Image 01 : my assembly with 2 parts
Image 02 : I open a part (the cylinder), we always see the box.
Image 03 : I open a sketch which is inside the cylinder part, we see the box. That is the purpose, I can work in this sketch seeing the box.

Need more ? Only ask if need.

Do you have Part-o-magic addon installed? If I remember correctly it does than - hides all objects when a sketch is edited so they don't obscure the view.

I understand what you're saying. What you want to do is edit the sketch of your piece without leaving the assembly file. What this editing mode does is to opaque the rest of the pieces to give way to the file editing of the selected piece.

You currently have to select the piece and open it in order to edit its sketch. This with A2Plus is very easy to do. I think the feature you request could be implemented in A2Plus. I don't know how complex it is to implement. You could check the Assembly forum.

Thanks, I am now very near what I need.

I worked with part-o-magic in a2plus and I got 01.png

I can now open the sketch of the cylinder (done by extrusion) and see the box : 02.png

But how please to copy an edge of the box in this sketch ? The surrounded icon in 02.png doesn't work...

Your box and cylinder are in different bodies (as they should be). If you want to reference another body in your active body, you need to use a ShapeBinder. It will then allow you to extract reference geometry.

1. Activate the body you want to modify.
2. Select a feature or all features of the other body.
3. Click ShapeBinder.
4. Hide the other body to avoid confusion.
5. You can now extract reference geometry in your sketches.

Hi, quite perfect !

I took the box (through shapeBinder) in the cylinder but shapeBinder moves the origin of the box.

Is it please some solution ?
