Exception: Access violation (when linking part in assembly 4)

Version: 0.18.4 (GitTag)
Build type: Release
Branch: releases/FreeCAD-0-18

Python version: 3.6.6
Qt version: 5.6.2
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.3.0
Locale: English/UnitedKingdom (en_GB)

Steps Taken:
1: New document
2: 2 x new cubes in part workbench
3: new model in assembly 4 workbench
4: 2 new parts in assembly 4 workbench
5: drag 2 x original parts from 1st step into newly created parts from step 5

6: click on model in heirarchy so it expands
7: click insert a link to a part icon
8: select one from list of 2, create new name, click insert

step 8 shows followin error in red in bottom left corner of free cad
Exception: *DATE* Access violation

i have uninstalled and reinstalled freecad and assembly.
all advice welcome

Please retry with a current 0.19 version. There are thousands of improvements, many of them concerning stability. And if the issue persists, please report back.

thanks for your help chris

development version 19 did not yeild the above error and worked as expected.

for the benifit of others reading this post did you know you can run the dev version without installing it, allongside the stable installed version.
