"well done steak" is what we call here "semelle de botte" (boot sole). I can eat boot sole, I'm not picky about food

We once came to my mother in law and she asked my son something like: "You know so much about meet can you please have a look when it will be good ..." - great relief on our side, until she continued "... I cooked it already yesterday to have it ready and today I'm only warming it up. I put it in the oven at 4 o'clock" so she said at half past seven ...

I am very grateful that my wife has learned nothing about cooking from her mother!
That's what we call it here as well. It might be a world wide known metaphor since Charlie Chaplin ate his shoe.
