Fonts and font size for headings

Post by garya »

Whenever I look at the docs with headings of level 2 and 3, I am often confused.

Level 2 displays in a thin serif font and level 3 displays in a boldface sans-serif font. They appear to be about the same point size. But the bold sans-serif vs. plain serif makes (to my eyes/brain) the level 3 look like it is at a higher level than the level 2. I would recommend switching or modifying them, to make the hierarchy more apparent.

Example: Path / Links for the impatient
("Links for the impatient" is not the parent of "General concepts")

Does anyone else see these the same way?

Well, i confirm that.

Most of the user who engage in working on the wiki are more or less tech oriented guys, rather than professional editor..so content counts more than look for most of us.

I suggest you create a sample how it could look like and have it discussed here.

Level 2 seems to be slightly bigger. But you are right, it would be clearer, if level 1 and two were bold as well or level 3 is unbolded.

Please do not swap headings level 2 for level 3 and vice versa, if that's what you were thinking. This is a CSS thing. We're using the same header styling as on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technical_drawing

Don't forget that level 2 headers have a horizontal line crossing the page. I actually like it the way it is...

This is the default mediawiki style, and indeed it's a bit weird...
We had a custom theme some time ago, but it stopped working with some update of mediawiki. I think our web hero @AR795 has started working on a new one...
