Downloads vs. Install on Win

Post by sgrogan »

Getting ready for the 018.1 release announcement I have been updating the links on the downloads page. However I noticed that the homepage for Win points to the Install on Win page, which uses some templates, they are different for the 32 and 64 bit version.

Is there a way to unify this?
I would suggest that nobody corrects this on the wiki because we are trying to unify the naming of the Win, AppImage, and OSX .dmg packages, so it's still a bit of a moving target.
TIA

What does that mean? What is "the homepage for Win"? As far as I know there is one single homepage for everything, and that is freecadweb.org.

It's a template embedded into another template. The embedded template sets the version in the download link. It is only used for 64-Bit, I guess because the 32-Bit installer was never updated to the latest 0.17 release and got stuck to 0.17.13528.

Unify what? The 32-Bit and 64-Bit links in the template? Or the Download and Install on Windows page? If you could be more explicit in what you're asking.

I guess it would make sense to make use of the Stable-Version template in the Download page, including in the links to binaries and maybe in the first paragraph.

So you updated the Download page with the 0.18 links, on the other hand you want to keep the Install on Windows page outdated?

Sorry for being so un-clear. I had actually confused myself.
I mistakingly thought the links to download FreeCAD on the homepage pointed to the wiki download page. They actually point directly to the github releases page.
In addition I was actually using the proposed new homepage https://sharazali.github.io/FreeCAD-Hom ... loads.html and was using the wiki link. For Windows this points to the https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Install_on_Windows.

By unify, I want to use these templates to update the wiki download page and the install on win page, by only updating the template once. I'd also like to use these same templates to update the https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Install_on_Mac and the appimage on this page https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Install_on_Unix

By waiting to update the links, I mean that I need to do some work on the file names here: https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/releases/tag/0.18.1 to use a "unified" template across platforms. I also haven't uploaded the SHA256 for the AppImage and .dmg.
