Wiki page on videos

Post by russ_hensel »

I posted this awhile ago in the Video and tutorial section:
.....

I like forums for discussion, but for reference prefer a wiki. So I have created the beginning of a page ( in the sandbox ): FreeCad on Video - FreeCAD Documentation*'''[https://wiki.freecadweb.org/FreeCad_on_Video - FreeCAD Documentation ]''' . Any feedback about the inclusion of this page, or changes..... would be appreciated.
........

But I only got 2 responses and I had to do them myself. So now I am releasing it ( but keeping the category sandbox for awhile ).

Is there any feedback. I am working on more pages, and will announce here.

I would get rid of the 'Related Links' column. Some of the links seem quite 'spammy'.
You should consider providing information about the subjects of the videos and perhaps also about the required experience level. I would prefer that information over what I now see in the 'Author Says' column.

Original Author Responds:

Related Links may indeed be spammy, as they are provided, mostly, by the creator of the channel.
Information on video subject would be great, but these are channels not videos, the practical difficulty is extreme. There are other pages where videos are broken down by subject. If someone would like
to take a couple of rows from the table and publish in this discussion along with the effort required, perhaps we could revise the whole table.

Which I have posted to the discussion page: *'''[https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Talk:FreeCa ... nel_Author Talk:FreeCad on Video - FreeCAD Documentation ]'''

One of the problems of such a list is that there is indeed a lot of effort involved. Not just in creating it, but also in keeping it up to date. I hope you have also considered that last part.

Why have you added them? They do not appear to be useful for FreeCAD users.

They come from the creators about page, I do it in deference to them, I think making YouTube videos about FreeCad is a noble act. Users of the page can decide for themselves if they wish to click. We could make it clearer that they are not vetted. I will think about it.

I have. But youtube videos live a long time and the Last Tracked Video column gives some info on how up to date the channel listing in, and very indirectly what version of FreeCad might have been used. Could have a column with version info, but a long live channel might have used many different versions at different times. Do not see how a mortal could manage that info.

In an ideal world the creators might help maintain some of the data, I invite them to the wiki when I add them.

Some minor details:

Since the page title is displayed as the H1 header, you should not use H1 headers in your wiki code.
FreeCad should be FreeCAD. I'll rename the page. But please fix that in the text as well.

https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Talk:FreeCAD_on_video

The old page names should redirect.

Wow, nice collection!

Consider adding:
- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyGwIx ... 3FKhZRbygQ (German audio)
- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRDrMY ... jYJcwhygZA (English audio, rather new, authors plans to do more)
