Topology and Geometry in FreeCAD, need for an explicit Wiki Page?

Post by onekk »

Inspiring with this post and some others:

Roy_043 wrote: Mon Nov 14, 2022 9:17 am The Orientation of a face is either "Forward" or "Reversed". If the Orientation is "Forward" the normals of the face and the normals of its Surface point in the same direction, else the normals point in opposite directions. It is very common to have a face with a "Reversed" orientation, every extrude will have one, it has no relevance for determining if the face is flipped.
I think that if not explained a norma user could not guess that:

A "Face" is "limited portion of a Surface", and you have to explain maybe even the different something.

There are some concepts explained here:

https://wiki.freecadweb.org/OpenCASCADE/en

And

https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Topological ... ripting/en

But IMHO such matter should be "explained and made visible" to newbies, as it is very difficult to explain things without having this "basic knowledge" that is the foundation on "FreeCAD inner working".

When I try to explain this things to newbies, I have only these forum posts to link:

Topology Geometry and so on by @Chris_G:

https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 12#p345612
https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 59#p501859

Consideration about 2D to 3D objects
https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 11#p463511

This is not related, but maybe interesting.

Outside and Inside for Offset of "open wires"
https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 69#p628069

Maybe with some revisions and coaching I could make something that resemble an explanation, but some "revision" should be necessary maybe involving @wmayer or other people with some "deep knowledge" to avoid "writing insanities".

What do you think?
