Now, populate the matrix (which is hidden - dig out the matrix that has no orientations) with the placement we just made. You should get this (if you hide "Project-aimAtTarget"):
This step moves the matrix to somewhere else and in addition i tried 'Keep Base First Item Pos' property to true doesn't help much.

Thought up to this point:
  • I like the features.
  • Terminology of the properties and possible values of them is way off.
  • New FreeCAD user probbaly has 0 chance of completing this tutorial.
  • What is missing documentation vise is for each tool to have basic description of what it does.

Suggestions? probably hard because of lack of documentation... ;) Renaming properties is a breaking change, these should be done as early as possible...

I don't know. I think you selected stuff in wrong order. Or maybe you haven't got rid of translational part of that single placement.

I often goof up selection order myself. I should make a task dialog, but I'm unfamiliar with how to make them, and it will take probably more time than it took to implement the actual feature :| .
