Still stuck...

For fun, play with simple experiment to build a box theatre like model ...
... mainly on 2 master sketches
... 1st with 4 edges for the theatre enclosure
... 2nd with 5 edges for the steps

Need some more features to add to make the model more refined :)

Ok, it seems I have made up my mind on how to do 'Profile / Face / Solid (BIM Object) Generator'.

How would you like to do a curve audience steps below?
  • Still 3 simple straight lines - like the previous rectangle steps - representing 2 'flights' and 1 'landing'
  • 3 ArchStair Objects with the 3 lines as base - still same as previous
  • Now, Stairs has options like StructureOutput, StepsOutput ... that you can pick Profile, Face, Solid (BIM Object)
  • Pick Profile and Stairs only give you profile, instead of the default 'rectilinear shape' stair flight solid
  • Do whatever you like with the Profile (like Revolve in this case)
  • (House the solid in an Stair Object as desired)
It seem much simple this way than to add 'more built-in features' in Stairs.

Any comments and ideas?

Then, the Profile should be 'editable' to let user fine-tune / adjust the 'default' structure / steps / risers profiles ?

In fact, just as simple as 1 line should do as Stairs has a 'Landing' attribute... just pick 'At center'

No need for 3 lines ... hmmm, just find a problem that the 'landing profile' is not produced in this way yet... :)

OK fixed - 1 line to create 2 flight + 1 landing

But with more more lines, one can tweak different risers height for each 'flight'

Hi, anybody know how to design a theatre? Just imitating some online images to test out the idea of using Stairs ...

Here is a typical section. This one is of Libeskind's Grand Canal Theatre in Dublin.

And he is a Revit section of a theatre I worked on that has a similar cross section:

And here is the process of building theatre from a 2d cross-section, similar to the way you are building them, while making sure it works with the sightlines, and then sweeping the cross section along a profile (Curved or straight)

Have you looked at the wall creation in Blender with the architools addon? It's not 100% intuitive, but it does a pretty decent job.
