curtain wall with a sketch?

Post by Renato »

Hi,I tried to make a curtain wall with a sketch (both line and rectangle) but I can't do it. While I can do it with a wire.
Is this so or am I doing something wrong?

If you make a vertical rectangle, it should work too, but then it will use the rectangle as its base face. Building it from a single line should work as well, how did you make the line?

I tried with this version (conda). here works with baselines, also sketch baseline.
Very nice! :P
(With the non conda version indicated (up) it does not work with the baselines.

(with this it works)

Recent discussion on a 2019 thread Freecad finally scratched that itch I had for so long make me test the difference between the Macro created therein and Arch CurtainWall object.

Do a quick test :D

I have not tested an Arch Grid, but a Sketch in vertical position, Curtain Wall return in report view that it has invalid shape

Great that we continue the discussion about curtain walls.
As far as I understand, if the curtain wall is based on a line, the number of mullions are set by the numbers of vertical and horizontal sections.
The macro generates the distances of the mullions by the given number of sections itself.
It seems, that the macro has an internal optimization routine, when placing the mullions.
This can be seen on the curved curtain walls, when it comes to the narrow part of the underlying sketch.
The distances of the vertical mullions goes down, to ensure flat glass surfaces.
BTW when the macro is started based on a curve like a spline, it first makes the curtain wall flat, as it always starts with 2 mullions. If we increase the number of sections, the curtain wall more and more follows the curve.

Yes, seems all equal-distance :)

So probably why @yorik mentioned Arch Grid.

Just added another example, this time based on an Arch Grid, to generate individual distances for the mullions of the curtain wall, by setting the sizes in the Arch Grid panel ( property box). Think it works fine.
Modified my former comment on this matter.
Thanks Paullee for your comment regarding Arch Grid!!
Always good, to go deeper into the module-description :D

Added 2 further examples , mainly to have a few Arch-CW-Macro examples in one file,( for me to remember the procedure, when needed ;) )
Sure, many things in modeling this in FC could be done much better then I did, still on an exiting way of learning, any comments on what could be done better are highly welcome.
Just for fun also a simple and quick Blender Render of the oval house, created in FC ;)
