FC BIM Platform gathering information

Post by F_Rosa »

Hello FC community!

In order to publicize and better understand the status of FC resources to build a BIM platform, I would like to propose a post that brings together the information available in this forum and elsewhere about this subject in a dynamic way.

For this, I thought of an updatable spreadsheet with the following items:
  • Disciplines (such as architecture, structural engineering, electrical, roads, hydraulic installations, HVAC, etc.)
  • Specialties (within the indicated discipline: interior design, metallic structure, wood, etc.)
  • Workbenches (with the FC workbenches used)
  • Examples (indicating the links of the posted cases)
  • Comments (with a summary of the suggestions, advantages, difficulties, problems and solutions found)
Is it possible to insert (not attach) a table, where the community could address the current information and add new ones over time, in the forum posts field? If not, any suggestions for this?

While we do not have an updatable table, I propose that who wants to contribute, fill in the information as shows below, ok? If inserting the table is possible in the future, we will find a way to put everything into it.

Example 01 (thomas-neemann, thank you, and please fell free to change or complete something):

Disciplines: Architecture, Structure, Foundations?
Specialties: Building, woodwork?
Workbenches: Arch, Part, Mesh Design, FEM?
Examples: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... se#p419814
Comments: Open Source House with Open Source CAD with ifc?

Example 2:

Disciplines: Topography, Architecture and Structure.
Specialties: Building, frames, woodwork and landscaping.
Workbenches: BIM, Arch, Part, TechDraw, Image and Sketcher.
Examples: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=60050
Comments: BIM with linked file system example.

Why not a wiki page in the FC wiki or in the OSArch wiki?
In the OSArch wiki we already have a list of AEC workflows that shows the capabilities of FreeCAD. You could complete the list with more info if you want.

Yes, a BIM wiki would be perfect! We could include a BIM platform item in "Tutorials - Comprehensive list as well" (https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Tutorials).

Also, would it be interesting to create a bidirectional link between the FC and OSArch wiki pages. In this way, information would be constantly shared and further disseminated.

For this, I ask for help to:
  • Create the FC BIM wiki page;
