I think you could work with two categories. Simple Frame (non-structural wall) and Structural Frame (load-bearing wall).
The Structural Frame could start considering Header Beams for the openings and some double edit:(jack or jacking) studs.

Thanks bitacovir That is exactly what's on my plans, another boolean switch for structural, If turned on it will place those headers on, it will let you choose if yo want the studs of the header in a box configuration or an I beam. but for now, I am working on the FEM side.

So many things to do. But I believe that being steel studs the way most developed nations build, having a good steel stud frame support from FreeCAD could help a lot of more people adopt it for Architectural work. We will get there, just be patient.
FEM analysis is nice but probably overkill for most users; but nice to have to visualize things for the engineering impaired who cant read a load chart or spreadsheet analysis. The most value here lies in the title subject: Automatic Light Gauge Steel Frame Creator macro; Steel, wood, or Composite doesnt really matter if designed safely!
hhassey wrote: Mon Jan 08, 2018 6:08 am , we are trying to make software, that creates "any" frame which can then be tested
P.S. Additionally, Wow, I was not aware software was being developed in this forum!

I didnt miss any point: The header support/jack studs appeared in early pics then disappeared. A comprehensive example (load/non-load bearing) would have answered all my questions.

DE NADA

Additionally, bravo bitacovir!

I don't see how this type of attitude supports creativity. Please modify your approach or opt out of the thread silently

Would you like to run a Finite Element Ananlysis on this?
I think that is not the future. One day an AI inside FreeCAD will say...

Should I run a Finite Element Ananlysis on this for you?

can you post your file from your FEM-example above?
Delete the results, right-click on Mesh in model-tree ==> clear-mesh
That reduces the file size.
Thomas
Sure Thomas, unfortunately I did not save that file, but I will recreate it for you, tomorrow I am out of town so as soon as I have some time, I will do it for you.

Thanks for your help.

After the rebar, this steel frame project is evolving at breakneck speeds. proud of it ;)

Here is the frame Geometry for FEM for you to test.

Hi Humberto,
thanks for the file.
Please try the following:
Export the frame as step-file.
Open gmsh (doubleclick) directly from bin-folder.
Import frame-step-file, mesh it.
I allways got meshing errors (which where not shown when using gmsh in FC),
even when I pushed up the meshing to more than 3 mio elements... ;)
In my opnion the relationship between the global frame dimension and the profile-thickness is
far to high to get a good 3d-mesh. Maybe it is better to extract the profile-faces and use
a 2D-mesh with shells.

The meshing process goes well with me, both in FreeCAD and in Gmsh, the FEA analysis gives results that pass the smell test.
