Re: Villa Savoye - FC Model

Post by paullee »

OK, I do not seem to have enough found information e.g. windows on all 4 elevations, just guessing to model; added ramps...

Before modelling the building complete enough to upload to a thread @bitacovir suggested 'Famous Building Library', some idea and sharing.

First, any way to share the WIP model e.g. on Github so if some other people interested could help e.g. building the rear GF window?

Then, a summary of the FC model structure / workflow for suggestion/comments:-
  1. Basically, target to have 1 master Layout Sketch for each floors (GF, 1F, 2F)
  2. The Layout Sketch is mapped over each other with Mapmode/Attachment Offset at the storey height
  3. So e.g. the GF Layout Sketch move, all Sketches move and the whole model (target)
  4. 1 Wall object (base on Layout Sketch) for each Floor (except 1F)
  5. 1 Wall object each for Internal Partition and External Facade for 1F
  6. (For above to fully reflect the wall align and thickness, need the latest ArchWall Override Width and Override Align PR / *.py)
  7. 1 Sketch for each elevation Strip Window
  8. Window Sketches also mapped over Layout Sketch, so all Sketches ideally are 'fixed' against each other 'as a whole'
  9. 1 Window object for each elevation
  10. Trying the workflow to debug the recent PR, test Link etc, submit bug / feature request reports

Some progress print for fun only :)
  1. Added mostly doors
  2. Can't help to use 'ArchSketch' to 'attach' the Doors to edges of Sketch
  3. So edit Sketch Layout/ Wall Layout, Doors follow :) ...
  4. And added a Grid(Axes), and GF Sketch is 'attached' to it
  5. In turn, 1F Layout Sketch attached to GF Sketch... (and Window Sketches etc.)
  6. So move the Grid(Axes), all Sketches follow, and so would the Walls etc.
Mainly internal glazed wall / partition outstanding... not much information though.

Good work. If you have problems with online information, maybe you should just go to a library or bookshop and ask for a book about this house. It is very famous.

Thanks, not much spare time to dig into library - should had visited there > 20years ago :D

Just sharing the model, added some glazed partition, lazy to model all door types, glazed wall next to ramp, stairs, planters, fixtures... outstanding...

Model need PR on ArchWall OverrideAlign / OverrideWidth / ArchSketchObject.py to work properly ATM...

Uploading model to Github https://github.com/paullee0/FreeCAD_Villa-Savoye
... version w/o imported dxf attached.

BTW, just notice recently that in FC I can choose the license of the model, no prior knowledge ... would welcome peoples to edit it, what is suitable?

Thanks.

amazing model @paullee! We could start a small library/repo somewhere with arch/BIM models... That would be tremendously useful to newcomers

Thanks, in fact @bitacovir has suggested a thread or somewhere else something like 'Famous Building Model'.

He is modelling the Farnsworth House there :D With structures

BTW, as just mention in the Artigas thread, would be interesting if someone would model the architectural model, someone else on the structural and MEP models etc.

Nice work! Looking forward to the ramps and finishing touches. This would be great content for a video tutorial to show potential of Freecad.

Could also be really nice to import it into Blender and render them out (would be happy to help with this)

Thanks. Quite some elements like planters, bathtub etc. outstanding. And w/o many information like 'rear' facade window, I just use the front as duplicate. Some door width is not correctly, haven't modelled another type of door :D

Glad if you want to do rendering !

Just suggesting if other professional could do the structural model, MEP model etc. for the completeness

I test the idea of using sketch as ArchWall base and other idea when modelling the Villa Savoye. The model need some of the latest PR and the ArchSketchObject.py to work.
