Diatonic accordion design with FreeCAD

Postby lehol » Thu Jan 11, 2018 7:16 pm

Hello!

Its time to show off something i have been working for some time. A small diatonic accordion with 19 buttons(not modelled  )
It is made using the 0.17 version, learning and discovering as I go.
Freecad has come a long way in the past years, I would not have been able to wrap my head around how to do it in 0.16. :D
3 reed blocks(have allready been cnc milled), it would have been a 100% Freecad CAD/CAM workflow if would have figured out, how to set the coordinate system orgin to a corner. But instead Freecad dxf export->Vectric CAM-> Linuxcnc.

Hello lehol,

Very nice project!

Since it's your second post in almost exactly 2 years (minus 18 days), and since it's the first topic you created, I feel like giving you a belated welcome to the forum. :)

That is nice to read, considering how most people are saying the reverse! :P

Don't hesitate to stick around and share your experience with v0.17 further, if you feel like it. :)

Very nice. I like to see projects of musical instruments. We see mostly guitars so it is good to see something different too :)

FC v.17 is amazingly powerful. It is not polished yet. It will get there. But I agree that already now it is way much more powerful than 0.16.

It is indeed a pity. The Path guys have done a lot of work there and I would love to see more projects using FC up to manufacturing. However, it really shows that we will certainly arrive there... you almost got away with it ;)

Definitely will post the final result, and some pictures in between. I am thinking also of some sort of write up what i have encountered making the instrument in Freecad. So stay tuned.
Most accordions of any type are factory made and there aren't that many artisans/instruments makers making custom instrument, at least comparing to guitar makers... :geek:

Would you be willing to share your work? I am interested in building a diatonic accordion.
