Hello hds!
Can you explain a bit more about your technic with nylon? Is it as solid as fibre glass?
Thanks.

Re: VIIC 1:45 modell
Sure.
Sneak to the wardrobe of your wife/girlfriend/... and reuse i.e. sneak a pair of nylons.
Test with 2+ layers. The epoxy soaked nylon will be very strong, durable and a bit elastic so it will not crack. With 4 layers as i did use for testing the hull is so strong you could use it for a canoo.
Bonus point: Your cohabitee will participate in the project that way.

Re: VIIC 1:45 modell
Hey! Need a project update here if you got the time!
Re: VIIC 1:45 modell
Dad brudder can be helped.
Access to the shipyard is limited in the moment. Don't know if it can be reastablished. (note 1)
Back in the stinktank:
1) Make the brushless motors watertight so they can operate directly in water. Need lathe for this (see note 1)
2) Find a solution for the cutout areas of the hull. I like to stick to the nylon hull but this creates a problem with the cutouts. In the moment i like to create lasercut (note 1) patches and stuck them into an cutted area of the nylons. See picture which tells more than 100 words of my mumble stumble ...
Well, ideas welcome ! Let your ideas drip in ...

Re: VIIC 1:45 modell
The front rudder section from the FC kitchen table workbench. Btw, i have an idea of how to get the cuttings in the hull. Needs some testing though.
Re: VIIC 1:45 modell
and with the snap in mechanism in place. Works out as planned thanks to FC.
Re: VIIC 1:45 modell
back from the workshop today. Aft rudder section ready besides fine filing and drilling. I think i will anodize all alu parts blue. That makes me think why not make the rudders itself out of alu ... fine colouring me thinks .... at least something different to all this warfare dark gray.
When this aft rudder section is finished i can carry on with the hull planking and covering.

Some laser cutter improvements. I should have done the "vacuum box" right at the beginning of this project (jacka_me (C))... drastically improves cutting results. Some settings that worked for my 15Watt laser on an eleks maker frame. The lattice metall avoids the building of ashes on the bottom side during cutting. When the laser cuts through it will burn the surface below and the pile of ash has an reverse effect on cutting quality. So you want to avoid this.
Ah, just forgot ... check the focus of your laser ... beginners fault hit me. Aaaargh ... all the frames done with a not focused laser ...(jacka see above) ...
Cover the not used areas with some paper. Newspaper will do. Make sure to put the politics upside down. The vacuum on these pages will support the draught.
Some sheets cutted. Pls note when your cuts are just to dark reduce power and/or increase cutting speed. You want just come through which should give you a needle pin width of a cut. Also you may want to check out BenCutLaser Tutorials on youtube for more explanations.Ah, just forgot ... check the focus of your laser ... beginners fault hit me. Cutting of the "vacer" logo. Pls note that you may get a _little_ bit of ashes on top when the first cut doesn't get through whereas on the bottom side there should only be hardly noticable traces of _smoke_ patterns but no ash deposits. The ash/smoke pattern on top of the material is due to a vent attached to the laser. Forgot a scale. The width of one leg of the "V" is approx 4mm.
May be i can do the conning tower tonight.
Overview: Zoom of "V" top side: And bottom side (note the two little smoke spots top right):
