I am running small fencing club in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Of course, main problem is price of scoring equipment so I decided to spent some time and try to make my own.
Here is some pictures of my fencing reel. This is fifth version and result of approximately 2 years of development. Everything was drawn in FreeCAD and printed on 2D printer. Cost of material for one reel is around 35 USD. I used 4 springs from chainsaw starter.
Here is some videos of reels in action.

Unfortunately, FreeCAD file is too large to upload on forum so here it is:

I used PDN, with lot of body cloning which kind of worked with some tweaking. All bodies are positioned manually.

Re: Homemade fencing reel
Thank you!
I am printing second pair right now, and all parts will be same color !
It can roll 20 m of cable with more or less constant force.

Did you design the Arduino score machine with Freecad? If that is the case you should include it in the post...

Re: Homemade fencing reel
Great project, nicely done.
Thanks for sharing the file. I briefly reviewed it and I am curious.
Did you move the Body to its proper location before creating it or after? In other words, did you create the body in-place or at the global origin and then move it?

Re: Homemade fencing reel
As you can see from file name it is version 5, subversion 3, so some bodies I copied from other (older) file and aligned manually. I was not aware of this possibility before, but it opened whole new world to me. Others I draw in place. Anyway, only thing I rotated and moved were bodies as such.ppemawm wrote: ↑Wed Mar 14, 2018 3:35 pmGreat project, nicely done.
