Centrifugal fan's rotor/impeller

Postby engdham » Wed Dec 19, 2018 1:00 pm

Hello,

This is a reverse engineered centrifugal fan's rotor/impeller that will replace the one in operation.

It was modelled inside Part Design, as a multibody part.

Part Array was also used for the blades and reinforcements.

Design was accomplished in Windows 10 64 bits, FreeCAD 0.17 64b, but the detailing drawing were then executed in 0.18 Assembly 3 0.8.6 as v0.17 was presenting a scale bug in Techdraw once you reopened files.

The rendering used Pov-ray 3.7.

Hello,

here is the impeller, as built, including an awesome background occultation. :roll:

Didn't know we had such good welding visualization support already available in FreeCAD.

:D good one! I don't think we're that close to the reality with FreeCAD. Especially that the "background occultation" didn't catch the floor between the vanes.
@engdham: very nice work! Can you post some more info? How big it is, material used, balancing, working rpm and so on? This is a very interesting case!

@PrzemoF, thanks!

The external diameter it's a bit bigger than 810mm and depth close to 340mm; SAE 1006/1010 was used everywhere; We outsourced balancing but it was pretty good even before the service; The fan pulls air from a industrial filter at about 1800 rpm. ;)

The client will assemble it in place and we won't be allowed to take photos inside the client's plant, unfortunatelly.

How about drawings? Did you made some? You should have made some to actually produce the rotor, should'nt you?
