That looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
Re: 4 cylinder steam engine
Looks very good! But are the teeth of the bevel gear functionally?

Nice one! What is the reason to have the 180° differential of the pistons, and not 90°? As it is now you have a dead point where no force can be created (the situation shown in the pictures), but with each piston rotated by 90° you could have continuous force, which allows a smaller flying wheel.
Re: 4 cylinder steam engine
Hi ickby,
if the force of the pistons is at 180° (like it is) the force is straight to the direction of the piston movement.
If you work with 90° you get aditional bending forces and oscillations, which needs a much more strong case. - May be the vibrations gets so strong that it's not possible to deal with...
Thats also the reason why a reguler 4 cylinder engine never has the working order 1 2 3 4.

As well as agreeing with Herbk comments, this is how the model is presented in the plans.
Re: 4 cylinder steam engine
Hi, nice project.
Since I'm new here, I'm wondering if there is a way to download the 3d model to open in FreeCAD. I can only see the images.
I'm taking motor combustion classes and play with this model would be nice!

Indeed, it looks like @un1corn didn't share the FCStd file. Best to wait for his response, regarding that.
