I will doing a drawer system and probably a trailer soon, hoping to learn FreeCAD as my major planning tool.

Did you add the measures on plan manually or there is a way to fetch them from the project ?

I used the tech-draw workbench, the measurements are fetched from the project, no need to do hand editing. It worked really well and is quire powerful now (used 0.19 development version)

I just painted it with "Seidenmatt" color. Sorry for the german word, don't now the english one... google says "silky matt". The structure comes from the "Riffelblech", standard aluminium checker plate.
