Trebuchet design - practice for assembly capabilities

Postby ov_nemet » Sun Apr 26, 2020 6:47 pm

Hello, as I see big potential for me developing hobby projects in the future with FreeCAD, I wanted to test the assembly capabilities. The design is an unrefined trebuchet with the sole purpose of getting familiar with the assembly options.

I enjoyed the constraints familiarity of A2plus V0.4.47. I tried with the Assembly 4 for a while but at the moment I struggle to see it's superiority because it seems to lack in flexibility (parts will have LCS only for the purpose imagined by the original designer) what it gains in robustness by not using a solver. What I would have loved to have in A2plus is a distance constraint between two surfaces/planes. EDIT: just realized that there is a distance property in the coincident plane constrain menu, great!

please please please animate this 8-)
Perhaps the FEM folks could do some FEM magic on it as well ? :D

Cool project!
I like this ancient stuff.
Can you post your file?

@Kunda1:
For FEM-dynamics we need a "moving mesh". Hard stuff..
With the FEM-GUI we can write a static case. Mmmh.. maybe editing the input file..but how?
Like this guy does (done with calculix-solver)

Sure, here are the files. trebuchet_assy is the main assembly.
