Freecad 0.19-Steel meltshop platform

Post by bruno.zilli »

Hello Friends

Freecad works very well!

Here attached it's an industrial work I've made recently. It's a civil structure for steel industry.

Thank you Freecad team!

Best Regards

Bruno Zilli

Dear Friend

This is an industrial work, not just an exercise. I'm not supposed to post more than this.
Really sorry.
Anyway, version 0.19 is far better than 0.18.4, by the command Shape builder generalized to all the entities. Now It's a reliable cad, industrially worth.
There are some issues to do expand, example a layer dxf export function better organized, the possibility to generate datum entities by middle point selection etc.
Thank you very much indeed to the team and the developers. You are faber libertatis in latin, it means freedom makers. It is for all the people that cant afford a 3dcad, while they must work to earn their day. Hugs!

Nice! That's understandable about confidentiality and all.
Is there anything you can tell us about:
your workflow?
lessons learned?
what issues did you encounter and how did you solve them?
What bugs did you encounter, and any workarounds?
What features would you have liked to have?

Please also add to your OP, you rfull FreeCAD About info. Thank you!

dear Friends,

dear Kunda1

workflow: bodies inside parts, set in position, scketches with relations, shape binder green wide using (great!).
lessons: I've been working with 3d cads since 1992, at the time in Fiat-Iveco...there is little bit of personal story and background...

what issues did you encounter and how did you solve them:
mainly the middle point datum reference, it has to be implemented in my opinion. If not you can work it around by sketches or datum-distances, not simple and not a natural way of designing in my opinion.

techdraft dxf exporting little mess: in my opinion it has to be changed by exporting hiddens on one layer, visible on another layer, axes one another layer too and so on.
About this last: normally 3d cad are good for 3d modelling, but little woody for the 2d draftman's job. Don't change the nature of things. Better, in my opinion, is doing an efficient export by dxf and finishing views and sections inside a 2d libre and so on. A good dxf export is necessary also for those who want to work inside Freecad also for 2d. If not, It's impossible an industrial quick drawing exchange between 2d cads.

In a close future, I'll be posting here a nostalgia-motor glider model airplane did at home on winter sunday afternoons. This, I can post the construction and the maiden flight video too. Coming soon.

Thank You very much indeed!

You, faber libertatis!

Hat down for You, guys, my respectful greetings and thanks.

if this is what you are missing: place a DatumPoint on the middle of a line with MapMode "OnEdge", then there is indeed the MapPath parameter missing. You can reach it, however, by rightclick in the properties and select "Show all". Set MapPath to 0.5 and the point will be in the middle. This even works for B-splines (great stuff!). After that you can reset ShowAll.

DeepSOIC, was this forgotten to expose?

Hello Chris

yes It works. Thank you.

But it can be useful a datum between different bodies, not only inside a body.

Could be useful a datum between parts too.

I'm at home right now, Ive got an old 32 bit with 16.04. Tomorrow I would try shape binder extended with datums with the 0.19.

Ciao

Bruno

Hello,

Mirror of different bodies between scketches is possible via Draft->Mirror, but is not so natural in my opinion. Anyway it works so far. In my opinion, far better would be a mirror line-plane-datum quickly sat by a command-macro inside draft.
Thank you very much indeed.
