Shaper Tool Assembly

Postby MrCAD » Sat Mar 27, 2021 3:15 pm

Done with A2Plus.

However, faced some error at couple of parts due to dimensional errors and first time ever try the speed modelling with FC which may lead to unsolved constrained but I guess it is my first try with Assembly and like to give a shot.

Sometimes I am confused between A2plus and Assembly 4 workbench but found some interesting stuff on A2Plus, thus modelled with the same.

I remember the shaper head tool holder from when I was an apprentice in the 60's
Nice job.

Hi. Not a criticism just an observation, do you think the tool holder flapper plate is back to front?

Looks correct to me. I am not sure if you are looking at something other than the obvious orientation.

un1corn is right to ask ;)
on it's way back flapper plate needs to "flap" so that the cutting tool slides freely.
As modelled it appears not to be possible?

Anyway, regardless of this very minor querry, an excellent model!!
Thank you for sharing.
BTW have tried your link tp Julius De Waal's page and couldn't find your source (my French is non existent  )
Where exactly is it, please?

OK.

I was focused on the overall design. It is correct that there needs to be at least a little bit of clearance to allow the flap to swing upward on the backstroke. Either adding a rounded edge or reversing the flap would work.

FAO bambuko.
The site I mentioned has slightly changed, try this
http://www.modelesavapeur.com/groupeder ... index.html
Click on the little flying guy at the bottom.
Scroll down and select http://www.modelesavapeur.com/telecharg ... index.html
Scroll down and you will find the shaper central on the page, click on it and the plans will be shown in PDF and you can download from your reader.
As you will see there are 8 sections of Julius De Waal contributions to the site, to date.
Hope this is helpful to all.

Hi Gene, I remember the South Bend Shaper, and if memory serves the flapper box was radiused both sides at the top which allowed the tool to drag over the workpiece on its return stroke, whereas other only had the radius edge at the back top edge of the flapper box.

Thank you!

and PS (later edit),
had a look at the original Julius De Waal's design files - and yes, his flapper has radius on the opposite side (to FreeCAD model) to permit it working correctly ;)
