Boat hull design
Hi, I've tried FreeCAD these days to create surfaces for hulls, and I have to admit that it has great features.
For now I have created some surfaces starting from models in OBJ format, used for the generation of spline curves from the points generated by the mesh model that I created with Blender.
The tools used are: The Workbench Mesh Remodel, Workbench Surface, and finally the Curves workbench.
This below some screenshot of what I've done in these 2 days.
The images are in a random order but some hulls are visible
Greetings

New test also with lines plans generated with sections tools in the part workbench.

Re: Boat hull design
Hi after few days of using FreeCAD I made a new hull only with B-Spline and surfaces Now I understood better the workflow and I'm quite happy of what I can archive with it.
Below a new hull of a Whietehall 14f created with Curves Workbench and Surface.

Re: Boat hull design
After an exploration I started using FreeCAD with curves and measures, to control the result, I started making a hull partially parameterized,
is still difficult obtain correct solids, while with Moi3D or Rhino the tolerance is greater and simpler get a solid from FreeCAD IGES.
I will continue on this project in spare time and I hope to finish soon.

Re: Boat hull design
Here is the first model completely created with FreeCAD and partially parameterized, although simple I have been able to learn many things and I have been able to appreciate the qualities of the boat modeling program.
I will continue to post my advances in this area here.
FreeCAD is a great alternative as a CAD modeler. I have a Moi3D license but I am enjoying doing parametric projects with FreeCAD.

Wow, looks great !
Re: Boat hull design
Thanks, I'm impressed by FreeCAD capability, here is an other model from my self learning path, this is a simple V hull, but everything is how should be and where I wanted, all is constrained and parametric.

Re: Boat hull design
I am very pleased that this topic is attracting interest, I will continue as mentioned to share here the progress.
With this hull I was able to understand other notions, there is still a long way to go to master the various instruments that I am beginning to understand.
This hull is based on the lines plan of USS PT-564 a Patrol Torpedo built by Higgins Industries, during the WW2.

@pafurijaz We made a lot of studies with boathulls in the german division of freecad forum for sailboats. if you are interested have a look at:
