Understanding structure

Post by emax »

Hi all,

I am currently practising with the PartDesign workbench and stumbling over an understanding issue.

The pictures below show a base plate (fussplatte) and a strut (stuetze_vorn). I've constructed them as two different pads. What I am now wondering about, is, that it is not possible to only render the strut. If I hide everything, and then display try to the strut only, the base plate appears as well.

Is this normal? I'd expect that particular pads can be displayed individually without making another pad visible compulsorily. It doesn't really hurt me that both are visible, but I am afraid that I have perhaps missed something and don't understand the structure.

Where is my jam?

Only base plate visible:

Only strut visible (should at least be so IMHO):

This is normal. Features are not stand alone objects, they show only the final state of the history. It might be easier to understand considering a hole: It is not sensible to consider a hole as standalone object, it makes only sense in the context of the object where it is applied to.
