how to make ruler indentations

Post by md123 »

hello,
I am new to this. Youtube has shown me some things but I need more info. I am trying to make a ruler though I do not know how to make the indentation marks. Do i sketch or do i make new shapes and paste them everywhere?

Here is an a quick example I put together of one that is completely parametric (adjustable). You can do English or Metric by changing the values and units in the spreadsheet. It allows you to have major and minor ticks as well as change the size of them for your needs.

Adjust the Spreadsheet to the values you need, and the ruler automatically adjusts.

Good Point :-)

Here I fixed it so you can now. I liked your longer lines for the major ticks. Putting numbers on it automatically would be a challenge I don't have time right now to figure out.

As you can see there are a number of ways to do this. Starting out with FreeCAD can be a bit intimidating as it is amazing what you can do with it. I still learn new things every time I use it and when I ask questions. YouTube is a great resource but so is the documentation.

Some to look at to get help with tools I used.

chirsb put this Sketcher Tutorial together that is a must-read. It is a bit long, but it really explains how to use Sketcher if you take the time to go through it.
