DXF export of sketch is incomplete

Postby tom » Sun Mar 29, 2015 9:46 pm

Hi,

first a big thank you to all developers for that great piece of software. I know that the software is still in an early development state. Nevertheless I used it for designing a cut-out sheet for a paperboard. I used the solver of the sketcher in order to get some computational support while designing the outline of the paperboard. I could finish that task successfully. Next I wanted to export the sketch to DXF so that the paperboard manufacturer can use it. So, I selected the sketch and pressed File / Export. Unfortunately the resulting DXF is incomplete. It contains only a few lines.
Then I tried another way: I converted the sketch into draft objects and then exported the draft objects to DXF. I got exactly the same result.

Can you tell me what is going wrong here?

Regards,
Thomas

Greetings tom and welcome here.

I'm sorry but I can't tell you any more than you already know about this. There's an export problem; I get the same result you did and much of the left side geometry failed to export for me as well.

For the dev's, here's a cut and paste from the report view of the error message I get when exporting to .dxf:

Code: Select all

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<string>", line 4, in <module>
<type 'exceptions.TypeError'>: Export of this object type is not supported by Drawing module

Hello Thomas,

I'm not sure why exporting your Sketch is problematic, but here's a method that worked for me: select the Sketch then use Image Draft Downgrade to downgrade it into primitive edges. Then select all, and export to DXF.

Be advised that this process destroys your sketch, so you might want to make a copy of the sketch, then downgrade the copy.

Also, the construction lines will not be downgraded, nor will they be exported.

Thank you NormandC. Your proposed work-around worked for me too.
