Freecad locls up on invocation

Postby frecd » Sun May 24, 2015 12:49 pm

Howdy;

Whether I click on the menu/panel icon, Freecad comes up, but locks up within seconds. Clicking on a menu item locks it up sooner. This also happens when I type it in a terminal window. It's happeniing whether its the stable, or the daily version, too. This tells me there may be a missing dependency, but I can't really say for sure. When I type it into a terminal, I get:

And now it's locking up again. This is just weird.

Hi Bill, can you run it with gdb and provide the backtrace from it? That might help provide more of a clue as to what is going on.

I've never played with gdp, what do I do with it? Many hours ago I started Freecad and left it up, even though, again, locked up. Looking at it now, it seems to be working again. __STRANGE__.

http://www.gnu.org/software/gdb/

You can install it with -

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install gdb
Then from the command line type gdb FreeCAD, and after gdb starts type run. FreeCAD will start and run as usual and if/when a crash happens, type bt for the backtrace output.

But if it's not crashing and just taking a coons age to start, maybe try renaming your ./FreeCAD/system.cfg file in your home directory, (or moving it / deleting it), and start FreeCAD again and see it that helps. A new system.cfg file will be created with all the default settings.

(gdb) bt
No stack.

Something to also be noted: In a previous post in this thread, I had managed to get it working enough to get the, "about freecad", thing working enough to get the info into the clipboard. It says I'm running a 32 bit version, on a 32 bit OS. It just happens that this is a 64 bit machine with quad processors, running the 64 bit version of the OS. Something is grossly out of kilter here.

Also, (two tries), no new system.cfg file.

Hi Bill, this post might help, it's about a standalone (portable) FreeCAD version:
