Post by Thomn78 »

Hello everyone,

So did I miss a tool or it is just FreeCad wich don't propose that tool ?
I also have some difficulties in the understanding of the "Unfold Faces" tool (Still Drawing Dimensioning Workbench. I can't found out how this tool works... help :(

Thomas

Hello.

Yes, at the moment a tool for adding geometric tolerances in FreeCAD is missing.

You could manually draw your rectangles/symbols and add your text in the draft workbench and then project that
to the drawing sheet as a workaround ...

I n the FreeCAD Drawing WB ...I not talking about the 3rd party plug in that you also mentioned.... You can a I think it's called a symbol? Which is just a small SVG file, so as a work around, perhaps you could use that.

Also note that the new substantially updated FreeCAD Drawing WB will hopefully be pushed to master over the next few weeks.

When GD&T gets added to FreeCAD, it would be useful to be compatible with the CAX-IF recommended practices for future interoperability with other applications.
https://www.cax-if.org/documents/rec_pr ... es_v23.pdf
https://www.cax-if.org/documents/rec_pracs_pmi_v40.pdf
The OpenCasCade translators for STEP include a very early version of the GD&T information, but will need significant work to bring it up to date with the current recommended practices and STEP schemas.

One former forum member had created SVG symbols for GD&T and published on Github. Unfortunately he closed the repo some time ago. I don't remember his name, but I think he's the guy who made the Multiple views tool in the Drawing workbench. I wonder if he attached his work to a forum post.

Hi Normand.

I found the post but it does not look like that the files still exist.

But starting from here and here we may be able to draw some svg-examples and upload them to the FreeCAD-symbols-library.

Maybe we can also add something for bevels and something for surface finish ...

Edit: found another useful site with pictures ...

The FreeCAD-Library is meant to be a collection of svg-files, not an extra workbench.

Each svg can be imported into the drawing workbench on its own.

also, both the freecad library and the symbols library have a macro (that must be copied to the macros folder) that launch a handy "browser" in freecad from where you can easily insert components...
