2. switch to the Draft workbench

There is no such problem with the freecad-daily package from the Daily Builds PPA.

Is there any specific reason why you compiled this occt7 branch? It is quite old, near 600 commits behind current master.

As suggested in the FreeCAD website, I've installed it by using the "Ubuntu Software Center".
It was listed as an available application for Ubuntu 16, I've just pushed the button "Install".... :?

Is that a snap package?!? Because the Ubuntu 16.04 repository currently has the old 0.15.4671 version.

The snap package was a test made months ago, based on an unfinished, incomplete and buggy development version.

I recommend you add the Stable Releases PPA to your software sources and install the 0.16.6703 package.

Latest Stable Release from the "stable releases" PPA or "daily" PPA

I'm installing the "daily" version. Should I install the stable version instead?

I would just draw some simple mechanics for my personal small projects ( so it would not funny to loose my work for bugs)... at the same time I would contribute in discovering bugs.

The daily version brings huge changes to the PartDesign workbench. While these changes were necessary, they brought bugs, and many things may yet change. Most importantly, much of the available written or video tutorials become obsolete.

What I recommend is to use the stable version for your projects. You'll be able to benefit from a wide range of tutorials. If you want to contribute in reporting bugs (your help is welcomed in that regard :) ), you can also keep the daily package, they can now both be installed at the same time.

I've installed the stable release and the icons are now correctly displayed. :)
So, the version listed in the Ubuntu Software Center is decisively old. Uninstall it if you have yet installed.

My system info now:

Actually, it is more recent (0.17.7744) than the stable version (0.16.6703). But it looks like there's a packaging problem. Also, it is old compared to the current development version available in the daily PPA. Right now, it contains the version 0.17.8317.

FYI: The first two digits after the zero define the version (0.16, 0.17), and the 4 last digits define the revision. The revision number is based on the commits in the master source code branch. A commit is a change in the source code, either to add a new feature or to fix a bug.
