I don't like lofts and sweeps when they are not necessary, because they are somewhat obscuring the geometry and - which is worse - the resulting faces cannot be used to attach further sketches.
Coming back to the beginning of this discussion, I see that your request for 3D sketches is in this case easy to solve by two rather independent planar sketches.
I agree with you that it could be modelled with some easy way. But the requirement was not only to make shapes, as the name says its a parametric model. The user can change the parameters according to the requirements in two planes.

I'm attaching the file with the reply for better understanding. The User can make changes in the sketches to get the desired results.
