Tapered Pad not doing what I require

Postby rayhall » Tue Feb 21, 2017 10:48 pm

Hello,

I have tapered pads near a round hole. The result of applying the pad is wrong. As I am new to CAD design I cannot workout how to achieve what I require. Any help will be appreciated. I have attached the design file and this image shows the problem.

Ray.

Hi,

By changing the pocket parameter Midplain to true, and doubling the Length parameter. You efectivly pocket 5mm to each side of the sketch.

Hello rayhall,
Nice Post! It's clear to see your problem. For Pocket001 and Pocket002 check "Symmetric to plane" and change Length to 10mm.
Fortunately the radii of your half slots are big enough to work.

@cox was too fast :)
EDIT: cox changed the value in the parameter editor (data tab) I re-opened the Pocket dialog.

Hi!
I was about to suggest you use 2 lengths mode of Pocket, but apparently it doesn't exist
What you can do is tick "Symmetric to plane" checkbox in pocket parameters, and double the pocket depth to compensate.

EDIT: OMG, a third post saying same thing :o

My first impression as well. If the slot was narrower it would be a problem.
EDIT: Part Extrude has it. Smells like a feature request. I'll write it up.
EDIT2: issue #2915

I love this forum. The help is good and quick. Also getting to like FreeCad rather then pen and paper.

The "Symmetric to plane" recommendation worked well. Thank you.

If I could ask, how did your formulate your post? A screenshot, About FreeCAd info, and sample file makes it easy. Did you read the IMPORTANT, search the forum, wiki?

I am not sure what I have done wrong. I did include the FreeCad information. I used Snagit to capture the screen shot then Windows Paint to add the yellow circle. I then loaded the image on my server and put the link to it in the post. I did not search the forum for the answer first if that is what you are asking.

Hi Ray,

You misunderstand sgrogan's question, he was noting that your question was well written and very clear and he was wondering how you knew to post such concise and helpful information. It is not as frequent as you think, we sometimes have to do a lot of back and forth before pinpointing a newcomer's issue.

Hello NormanC,

I ran my own forums for years doing technical support for the engine management I sold. I know just how frustrating this can be. I would get post with just "My engine will not start, what could be wrong"
