[Solved] [Sketcher] Point on mid-point / bisect

Post by Sam »

Code: Select all

OS: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.17.12090 +1 (Git)
Build type: Debug
Branch: preselect-show-labels
Hash: 4f21edfdd39d64155aa3a03132cac1be6c52219b
Python version: 2.7.12
Qt version: 4.8.7
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.1.0
Locale: English/UnitedKingdom (en_GB)
So, I was lazily tidying up some browser tabs, sort of checking if there was anything important to see, when I saw this: Image
And I see it's been updated recently. Is this a real thing I can use somehow?

And while I'm here, what's the easiest way to link one of those images from Artwork?

@agryson updated the FreeCAD icons not too long ago, but I think it is still unused. Instead, you can place a Point, Constrain it onto a line segment with the Point On Edge Constraint:
Image
then use the Symmetry Constraint to center the Point between the endpoints of the line segment.

I don't know if this is the easiest way, but it's how I do it:
From the Artwork page, right-click on the icon you'd like to link to.
From the pop-up menu select "Copy Image Location".
When typing my reply, I click the Image button (above the text entry window).
The Image tags appear and my cursor is centered between them.
Then I do a Ctrl + V to paste the image location.

In the text input window it looks like this:

Code: Select all

[img]https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/images/0/0b/Constraint_PointOnMidPoint.svg[/img]
And after posting, it looks like this:
Image

Isn't that what you did?

It does say that on the wiki. I thought I'd ask since the icon seems to have had a few revisions.

That sounds like pretty much what I do too.

That is exactly what I did. At first. The link I get when I copy is:
...freecadweb.org/wiki/File:Constraint_PointOnMidPoint.svg

word censored. That is not what I did. I used "Copy link location." Not paying attention. I forgot it's on a wiki... and obviously it's going to link to info about itself. Wasted another three minutes of my life by being an idiot. :D

Thanks mate.

No. It goes like so:
1. create a point.
2. select the point, the line, and click Symmetry.
That's it, too easy  !

Hi all,

Isn't useful to modify line behaviour in order to make the midpoint selectable in sketcher, like other common CAD software?

Well, it´s not the question to SELECT the midpoint..it´s questionable wether the constraint solver can handle "midpoint" as a constraint. I don´t know.. but it´s would be quite nice to have.

I prefer datumpoints in the meantime..as i can use them on several sketches. Also, 2 addons exist, dealing with geometric locations along edges etc. Unfortunately only the workfeature macro can deal with 0.17 , workfeature workbench´s points and lines cannot be used in 0.17 up to now. Both would be nice to select a bunch of properties from several objects at once..
