Unable to figure out how to LOFT v0.17 PartDesign

Post by Karl1459 »

I have been trying to loft in Part Design with no success.

Vital Statistics:
OS: Windows 10
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.17.12552 (Git)
Build type: Release
Branch: master
Hash: 647b6d6ea0bb03dae9f6b557fd5dd011efc1b9cd
Python version: 2.7.8
Qt version: 4.8.7
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.1.0
Locale: English/UnitedStates (en_US)

To illustrate I tried lofting two simple rectangles. I sketched the first:
Step1ConstrainedRectangle.jpg
Step1ConstrainedRectangle.jpg (73.79 KiB) Viewed 857 times
Then to sketch the second rectangle selecting "create sketch" resulted in editing the current sketch... should this have an option to "edit sketch" or "create new sketch"?
Step2SketchToolsScreen.jpg
Step2SketchToolsScreen.jpg (56.28 KiB) Viewed 857 times
I was able to (with information from another thread) to click on the "body" and create a new sketch.
Step3SelectBody.jpg
Step3SelectBody.jpg (59.13 KiB) Viewed 857 times
This is the second sketch
Step4Sketch001.jpg
Step4Sketch001.jpg (84.98 KiB) Viewed 857 times
I then exited the sketcher to modify the metaplacement on sketch001
Step5MetaPlacement10mmSketch001.jpg
Step5MetaPlacement10mmSketch001.jpg (68.26 KiB) Viewed 857 times
Now I attempted to loft (continued... can only post five screenshots)

Attempting to loft did not show any sketches to select, however did blank out the current sketch.
Step6NoSelectionOfObject.jpg
Step6NoSelectionOfObject.jpg (55.92 KiB) Viewed 855 times
Clicking OK resulted in an input error message:
Step7ClickOkError.jpg
Step7ClickOkError.jpg (55.26 KiB) Viewed 855 times
And resulted in the tree with an additive loft in error.
Step8AdditiveLoftWithError.jpg
Step8AdditiveLoftWithError.jpg (53.73 KiB) Viewed 855 times
Clicking OK allowed me to exit with the Body showing an error: Error but must be executed.
Step9ErrorButMustBeExecuted.jpg
Step9ErrorButMustBeExecuted.jpg (59.69 KiB) Viewed 855 times
Is there a workflow that will work? Is this a bug? I am stymied!

You start with selecting a sketch in 3D view, then you click "Additive loft".

Your Screenshot shows the selectable sketches in the 3D view (in fact it is only one). You click in "Add section" and next you click the sketch in 3D view. You will get immediately a preview in the 3D view.

You're welcome. Ask back if you have more questions. The user interface for the new Part Design workbench is sometimes a bit cumbersome, but there are great improvements in the tools and functions.
