How to use M function in polyline

Post by FC-Architecter »

OS: Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia

Qt version: 4.8.7
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.2.0
Locale: English/UnitedStates (en_US)

I have been unable to get the m function to work in polyline.

In the screenshot for tutorial 05, it worked for the first arc, but then for the second it, began flickering and making lines much longer, going out of the screen.

I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me what I am doing wrong.

I tried leaving the ends loose in polyline then starting them again at the next point, then going back and adding arcs. But when the sketch is closed the object is not complete so cannot be padded, for example. I get OCC problem.

Sometimes drawing arcs can be very "twitchy", especially when the arc is nearly a circle. Slight movement of the mouse can flip the arc to different orientations or change the size dramatically.

Try again, and be very careful and controlled with the mouse movement.

The sketch will not Pad because you do not have a closed profile.

You mean I can resolve that big balloon into an arc just like the other one?

Yes, I realized that. I was wondering if I refined the image, would that close the profile.

Is there a tutorial page on profiles?

Maybe I can add this post to this thread although it is on a slightly different subject.

I figured out how to use the arc feature in polyline.

I completed the rough sketch for tutorial 05a. Screenshot.

But at some points I lost the polyline continuity. I went back up reclicked the polyline icon and continued in the sketch where I stopped.

But when I closed the sketch the drawing was incomplete. Screenshot

I would appreciate knowing how drawings can be completed and repairs made in sketcher, so the so the object is complete when sketcher is closed.

If this post is in the wrong place I can relocate it.

I just went to the sketch>edit and selected and deleted all the lines not shown in the object.

Then I clicked polyline icon and completed the sketch. This time FreeCAD was merciful.

I have another question about this tutorial.

It says to "constrain the first point onto the last by using the coincident constraint"

Can't we just bring the polyline up to the first point and click, so the first and last points are on top of each other?

Should I go back and delete the final segment and constrain the 2 points?

The way I did it seems to pad ok.

The place of the post is perfect.
You mean you have created in sketcher the upper image and when you click Ok you only see the lower? I have never seen this before. How does the sketch look like when you re-enter sketcher edit mode?

Edit: Ok, you posted in the meantime yourself. Did you have the non showing lines turned to (blue) construction lines?
