Asymmetric tapered hole

Post by earthcare »

Hi
I have a real challenge: I cam't even work out where to start.

I have a flat surface which is at 45 degrees to the Y and X axes. In that surface I need to form a tapered hole, but one that it not circular. A 2D drawing of the hole is attached.

I presume I can create the item, and position/align it to the existing drawing, then subtract one from the other, but:
  • I have absolutely no idea how to draw this item!
  • I have never positioned something that is at 45 degrees to one the standard axes.
I could probably work out the second (eventually) but the first baffles me completely.

Can anyone help?

for your parts you have a placement property.
you can change the direction by the rotation attribute
if you switch to euler angle representation of the rotation it is easy to rotate along the main axes.

microelly2, thanks for the tip.

meme2704, that's almost it, thank you. The circle at the bottom of the hole is centred in the hole, rather than off-set, though, and the hole is perpendicular to a face that is at 45 degrees to the main axes of the drawing - sorry if I misled you in that regard.

HarryGeier, I'll have a look at datum planes, thanks.
