Start page opens when closing sketch

I've been noticing that every time I close a sketch, the start page is automatically opened. It happens on both Windows and Linux...

Are you referring to the "FreeCAD Start Center"? As if the program was just opened or started?

Right. It's tab is entitled "Start page"

I just did the following:
- deleted the config files
- started FreeCAD,it shows the start page
- closed the start page (did you do the same?)
- opened a FreeCAD file
- closed it
- -> no start page

What is different at yours after deleting the config files?

If you edit a sketch from any workbench other than sketcher, when exiting sketch edit mode FreeCAD re-activates the previous workbench. If it's the Start workbench the Start tab is re-loaded.

Watch the python console.

There have been quite many bug fixes since the initial v0.17 release, the latest version is 0.17.13522. It might help - or not.

I have this same issue crop up ONLY when I went from OSX El Capitan to Sierra. The start page wants to open when a sketch is closed. If there is a start page already open, then it does not do anything. I re-installed Freecad but it did not solve the problem.

additional edit to my post: -> The problem goes away if I uncheck the 'Enable start splash screen at startup.'

I don't think this a big deal, there are other more important things to work on and add to this great opensource software.

I believe it was the Sketcher WB, but because of your question, I went back to try to re-create the original problem and I CANNOT. I went back to the FCAD preferences to enable the splash screen at startup but the problem has gone away. I am unable to re-create it even after re-starting FCAD multiple times.

Edit to this post: I am able to recreate the problem again only when I have these settings:

If I select Part Design WB or Sketcher WB to auto-load, then the splash screen does not start-up at all EVEN if the check mark is enabled.

I am dared to guess that it was the Start page as sgrogan suggested above.
