Removing holes from strut

Post by lemonbug »

Hi.

Can someone kindly walk me through each step to produce the object here but without the holes? I worked through the two tutorials suggested last week but there are still some things I am not grasping.

I think if someone can explain how to complete this I will finally understand how the organization works.
thanks, j

Hi,

I'm not sure what you are asking:

  • How to delete the holes in the existing model (did you make it yourself?)
  • How to reproduce this model, but without the holes

Hey lemonbug, that model looks familiar!

The easiest way is to just make a Pad to fill in the holes, instead of deconstructing the model and rebuilding it again.

Select either face where the holes are located, and click the Create Sketch tool. Create a rectangle that surrounds all the holes (you don't even need to Fully Constrain the Sketch):

Close Sketcher, and click the Pad tool. Change the parameters to match these, then click the OK button:

To get rid of the rectangle shape after the Pad002 is created, select it in the history tree and change the Refine property from false to true:

If you want to deconstruct and rebuild the model instead, post back and let us know.

I wish I had such an easy "add it back" tool for my machining goofs.

Thanks bejant. Sorry for the poorly written request. I should have thought of just filling it back in. That will work for now. It's just a one-off case where I need to retrofit an old prosthesis. I know the mounting holes on the base of the prosthesis are off by just a smidge from what's on the foot so I will drill them by hand.

That model has been worked over many times by many people so I don't recall who had their hands on it last. Are there some parts/steps that are missing that don't allow me to revert back to the two parts alone to make a new fusion? I was trying to find the upper strut without any holes and the bottom dish part, fillet them, then fuse them together again but I wasn't able to work that out and gave up after an hour.

Thanks.

  1. Delete Fillet002 and Fillet003.
  2. Delete Boolean. The Body001 it contained is now ousted from Body.
  3. There's a graphics bug with the 3D view, the salvaged Body is not visible after deletion of a Boolean feature. Go to View --> Create new view.
  4. Body001 is not visible yet because its last feature has been hidden. Click on the arrow (or plus sign) besides it to open its content, select Fillet001 and hit spacebar to make it visible.
  5. Now, you can delete the MultiTransform then the Pocket and Sketch003 in the first Body.

And you think plugging the holes takes more time in v0.17?

It would be better to fix the model, but thinking of the dog I decided to use a quick but sloppy band-aid.
