fillet on curved intersections
Hi all,
I am trying to define an enclosure as the intersection of a rectangular cuboid and two cylinders, and I would like to add fillets to all edges, except four.
However, freecad does not allow me to: even if the edges/faces are selected, and I choose "Fillet" from the menu, I get the "Select an edge, face or body from an active body." message, but I can't activate the body, because as soon as I try to select an edge, the top-level object, a common, will become active.
I have also tried making the cylinder as a surface of revolution, or taking it from the standard objects in the Part workbench, but that does not change the situation.
In any case, I would appreciate, if someone could shed some light on the problem. I am quite sure I miss something totally trivial.
Thanks,
Zoltán

Re: fillet on curved intersections
Hi Zoltán, welcome. You have probably used the PartDesing fillet which works only inside of a body, which you have left when you applied the Part->Common operaton. Use the Part Fillet instead.

Re: fillet on curved intersections
I forgot: For Boolean Common you can use 3 elements as well. That saves you one common operation and one nesting level.

Re: fillet on curved intersections
Greetings Chris,
Indeed, that was the problem. Thanks for the clarification!

Hi zvoros
It seems to me that during the comun operation you took out the object of the body, so you can no longer use Partdesign, if you take Part Wb, filet works
Competitors than me, will tell you how to stay in the body

Re: fillet on curved intersections
Hello Zoltán,
Your test model could be done more efficiently.
You made three separate PartDesign bodies, then you left the PartDesign workbench and used the Part workbench. You didn't need to leave the PartDesign workbench: there is a PartDesign Boolean feature that would have allowed you to end up with a single Body and stay in PartDesign.
But you could also have made it in a single PD Body with only 2 sketches, one Pad and one Pocket. (meme2704: try to do better in v0.16 )

Thanks for the hints, and extra thanks for the corrected freecad files!
