Can't create pocket

Post by earthcare »

Hi all and thanks in advance.

I can't seem to create a pocket in my model.

I created the basic model from an imported dxf file, which I then closed and padded.

I've tried several iterations of the next step, which is a pocket to remove a section of the pad, but to no avail. I can see the sketch, and it's fully constrained; when I create the pocket, i can see the outline on the opposing face. But the material is still there. The file is attached.

Can anyone see what I've done wrong?

Thanks
Edwin

This is probably a precision issue (see image below) or some other problem in the extremely old version you use. Let the sketch at the right side extend a little bit over the solid and it will probably work.

I would strongly recommend to update to current 0.17 version which will bring some changes in PartDesign and almost 10.000 improvements over your version.
If you don't want this you should at least use 0.16.6712 which is like 0.15, only better!

it seems to me that the ray is the cause of the disorder, by supriming it and replacing it with a right angle, then making the ray
Otherwise I advise you also to replace your version by V16,
or V17 if you want to rub in Partdesign

I try to do with V18, only I can not limit the radius to the edge, it overflows on the edge of the pocket, how to limit the action to a single edge

You have to reorder the application of operations. Doing the fillet before the cut prohibits filleting the curve.

ok, indeed it works, but as this ray seemed to be the obstacle to the op of pocket, I wanted to do it after

It's unfortunately not possible, nor was it in v0.16 and v0.17. We miss an option to stop fillets from propagating to tangent edges.

I guess an ugly hack would be to edit Sketch002 and make sure the arc is not tangent to the vertical line it's connected to.

BTW, meme2704: check your dependency graph, you will see two red arrows indicating non-allowed links. You didn't need to do a Part Extrude then a Part Cut: you could have created a PartDesign Pocket.

Thanks everyone,

I didn't realise that the version on the Linux-Mint repository was so out of date. I added the up to date PPAs, but there were too many unmet dependencies, so I installed the AppImage.

I tried all the suggestions; the one that finally worked was to entirely remove the block at the bottom of the bracket in which I was trying to create the pocket, leaving an chamfered edge, then create the shapes I need to create and - finally - finished.

yes, but as I had to go back in the tree to remove the small radius, the sketch is found "free", which forced me to spend a pad
- finally - finished.
can you upload the file :?:

I don't see how that was a problem, because your sketch was mapped to the solid. You only needed to drag & drop the sketch over the Body, then directly make a pocket.

But this is not the topic here. ;)
